Goal Statement:

The goal of this project is to review and make recommendations to the IRS that will enhance customer service and improve the taxpayers’ experience. The goal of the Tax Forms and Publications Committee (TF&P) is to promote greater efficiency in the communication and implementation of tax laws. The suggested changes will lead to better and more understandable communications between taxpayers and the IRS and promote a better relationship with taxpayers.

Streamlining the Tax Preparation Process

Project Statement:

Facilitation of Electronic filing is becoming increasingly prevalent, and the lack of ACA information often hinders this process. Allowing POA’s access to Forms 1095-A would address this issue and encourage the adoption of electronic filing.

Goal Statement:

Enhanced Support for Taxpayers: Empowering POAs to retrieve 1095 information demonstrates a commitment to providing comprehensive support to taxpayers, making the tax preparation experience more user-friendly.

Project Statement:

Taxpayers should be given the option to add phone numbers to their online accounts profile and maybe provide an option to receive SMS/text.

Goal Statement:

By adding phone numbers to online accounts, the taxpayers would be provided another option of communication since taxpayers will have the ability to receive messages to their phones to confirm any updates to their accounts.

Foreign direct bank deposits

Project Statement:

Allow non-U.S. direct bank deposits for people filing from foreign countries. Social Security Administration and railroad retirement board can do it, why not IRS

Goal Statement:

Enable international taxpayers to be able to pay their tax due and receive refunds from the IRS using a non-U.S. bank account. The IRS committed to “Provide payment options to taxpayers abroad and foreign governments. Allow those with foreign bank accounts and foreign currency to make and receive payments,” in the 2023 IRS Strategic Operating Plan. However, the report didn’t commit to achieving this specific project by a certain date and so the Taxpayer Advocacy Panel requests that this functionality is expedited to make it easier for the IRS and international taxpayers to make and receive payments.
