The tax filing season for 2022 federal tax returns will kick off soon. To avoid any unnecessary difficulties, the Taxpayer Advocacy Panel (TAP) encourages taxpayers to start preparing now.
To help you get ready the IRS has put together some guidelines with simple steps you can do before the end of the year to make the filing season easier. For helpful tips, read the IRS’s news release or visit the Get Ready page on the IRS website.
The Taxpayer Advocate service also offers Tax Tips and other resources to help taxpayers including hosting virtual and in-person pre-filing season events. Visit the Pre-Filing Season Events page to get more information and find an event near you. New events for the 2021 tax filing season will be added in December – check back often for new events in your area.
About the Taxpayer Advocacy Panel
TAP is a Federal Advisory Committee made up of an independent panel of citizen volunteers that listens to taxpayers, identifies systemic issues, and makes suggestions for improving IRS customer service. TAP is always looking for feedback and suggestions to improve the IRS and asks that if you see any potential systemic issues while filing your tax return this tax season – let us know. We take all comments seriously and will discuss them at a future TAP meeting.
Members of the TAP work on a variety of issues that impact the taxpaying public. TAP panel members have made recommendations to improve the online account experience, as well as various other online IRS features.
Read more about the work and accomplishments of the TAP in our 2021 Annual Report or visit our 20th anniversary page.
