Taxpayer Advocacy Panel (TAP) member T. Renee Parker joined IRS Commissioner Charles P. Rettig, National Taxpayer Advocate Erin M. Collins, and New Jersey Local Taxpayer Advocates (LTAs) at the tax practitioner forums held on June 22 at Bergen Community College in Lyndhurst, New Jersey. Ms. Parker is a Certified Public Accountant and serves on the TAP Notice and Correspondence Committee.
Commissioner Rettig and the National Taxpayer Advocate were keynote speakers at the forum which included a Tax Controversy update and other key issues impacting tax professionals. During the event TAP representatives, including TAP member Parker, worked to connect with the attendees and inform the public about the TAP’s mission to improve IRS processes and customer service.
Other taxpayer outreach opportunities at the forum included Problem Solving Day events hosted by LTA Erica Son (Springfield, New Jersey) and LTA Darol Tucker (Trenton, New Jersey). The Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS) conducts Problem Solving Days to offer in-person assistance to taxpayers who have tax problems they haven’t been able to resolve with the IRS.
This event also focused on equipping the public with the latest guidance on handling tax issues and educating taxpayers about the resources that are available to assist them with working with the IRS.
