Taxpayer Advocacy Panel program to go on temporary administrative suspension

For more than 20 years, the Taxpayer Advocacy Panel (TAP), through its team of dedicated volunteer members, has served a vital function in our tax system by advocating for the interests of taxpayers and offering critical feedback to the IRS. The insights and concerns raised by TAP members have historically played an influential role in shaping policies and redefining services that directly affect taxpayers across the nation and abroad. At this time, however, the TAP program will enter a temporary administrative suspension, effective February 13, 2026.

This will include a suspension on the acceptance of new issues and concerns related to improving IRS processes and taxpayer service. Please return to this page for additional updates as they become available.

Nationwide Tax Forum in Orlando Introduces Attendees to the New IRS

Members of the Taxpayer Advocacy Panel (TAP) participated in the 2024 Nationwide Tax Forum in Orlando. TAP was represented by member Anthony Earwood, along with TAP Director Shawn Collins and TAP Senior Program Analyst Fred Smith. They greeted attendees, listened to their issues, attended seminars, and interacted with tax professionals from across the nation.

TAP members were able to communicate their mission to improve IRS service, policy, and procedures, and update attendees with the progress about the ongoing IRS transformation. Several attendees who participated in the Taxpayer Advocate Service’s Case Resolution Room said that resolving their toughest case was made easier by using the new program to book appointments in advance. Numerous tax professionals also said they appreciated the many new Spanish-language seminars available at the forum as well as 18 new self-study seminars through the National Tax Forum online portal.

As always, one of the highlights was the National Taxpayer Advocate’s Town Hall event where National Taxpayer Advocate Erin M. Collins discussed issues facing taxpayers and tax practitioners and answered their most burning questions.
