Form 4506, Request Copy of Tax Return

Issue Statement:

Taxpayers have expressed concern about third party use of copies of their tax returns and transcripts requested by filing Forms 4506, Request for Copy of Tax Return and 4506-T, Request for Transcript of Tax Return.

Goal Statement:

In bold type, highlight both the cautionary statement in Line 5 and the separate caution statement immediately above Line 6 on Form 4506 and 4506-T to make clear that a signature gives the third party listed (e.g.--a mortgage company) the right to receive all pertinent data on the specified tax return(s).
