Advertising TAP in Publication 1546

Statement of Issue:

It is an ongoing concern that the Taxpayer Advocacy Panel is not widely known.

Proposal:

In an effort to advertise the Taxpayer Advocacy Panel (TAP) as an Independent advisory unit to the IRS, the Area 1 Committee proposed that a brief statement of TAP’s mission and information such as the toll-free number and website be included in the Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS) Guide “How to Get Help With Unresolved Tax Problems” (Publication 1546). The suggested statement is:

Taxpayer Advocacy Panel (TAP) – An independent panel of citizen volunteers who make suggestions for improving the way IRS does business. Contact TAP at: 1-888-912-1227 or www.improveirs.org.
