TAP Chair Report (April 2, 2008)

  • March Meetings:

  • April Face-to-Face Meetings:
    • 4/16 – 18: Notices Committee
    • 4/17 – 19: EITC Committee
    • 4/22 – 24: Area 2 Committee
    • 4/27 – 29: Area 5 Committee

(Note: please be sure to take pictures during these meetings for inclusion in the 2008 TAP annual report.)

  • First-pass agenda prepared for Joint Committee Face-to-Face meeting, 6/19 – 21. See separate handout for further details. Committee members are requested to provide suggestions for additional meeting topics.
  • Area and Issue Committee monthly report for 2/2008 issued (by Barbara Foley). See separate handout.
  • List of active TAP Issues report issued (by Barbara Foley) dated March 26, 2008. This report lists all issues (56 in total) being worked by Area and Issues Committees. Chairs are requested to review this consolidated report to ensure it accurately represents ongoing work in your committee. Three Issue Committees are missing from this report (EITC, Burden Reduction, Forms and Publications/Adhoc). Barbara Foley will recheck the TAP database and check with managers to complete this report. This report will periodically be updated and can be used to forecast TAP progress for 2008. We may request Chairs to assign target completion dates for each of the issues being actively worked.
  • TIGTA (Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration) is currently undertaking two projects: 1) A review of the impact of Refund Anticipation Loans on taxpayers and tax administration; 2) Shopping visits to Paid Preparers in the Atlanta are (30 visits) to determine accuracy of prepared returns. TIGTA and TAP had a one-hour teleconference on 3/24 to discuss TIGTA’s work and seek input from TAP. See separate handout for further details.
  • A draft of the 2007 Annual Report is available in the TAP Space reading room. The team is currently working on integrating data from Issues elevated over the past five years and editing the report. The report is being written as a retrospective of the first five years of TAP’s existence.
