TAP Chair Report (March 5, 2008)

  • TAP actively participated in EITC day on January 31. Susan Gilbert is compiling a summary of our participation.
  • Congratulations to the Area 2 Committee for identifying a high priority issue regarding incorrect SSA 1099 forms and sending it to the IRS (SAMS) for immediate action.
  • Congratulations to the Notices Committee (Max Scott, Lee Stieger, and team) for their letter of recognition from the IRS. The work by this committee over the past several years has led to significant improvements of a variety of IRS documents and communication letters. The Document Assessment Tool (DAT) or IRS document scoring is being adopted by other parts of the IRS organization which is a high complement for the value of the DAT system.
  • Area 3 (Dale Cooper, Mark Paris, Jaz Florence, Lou Kapugi, Bernie Coston, Nancy Ferree, Sally Chavez) hosted the first Town Hall of the year on February 21,2008 in Mobile, AL. The meeting was reported to be a real success and identified a number of new issues from the public which will be analyzed and addressed by Area 3. Further details will be reported by Area 3.
  • TAP (Hank Mosler) participated in the IRS Oversight Board Public Meeting and Panel Discussion on February 19, 2008. Three panel Discussions took place
  • How can the IRS do more proactive and educational outreach to stakeholder partners.
  • Provide feedback from the panel on the proposed legislation to regulate the tax preparer industry.
  • The IRS will experience significant personnel retirement over the next several years. What are panel member organizations doing to attract, develop, and retain key employees.

TAP actively participated in the first panel discussion, and our recommendations were well received.

  • Area 3 held their face-to-face meeting in Orlando, FL on Feb 28 – March 1. The meeting was successful, and the five new Area 3 panel members actively participated and are fully invested in TAP.
  • The 2007 TAP Annual Report team is making good progress with hard work by several “graduate” TAP members and current IRS TAP staff under the leadership of Maryann Motza. The team is targeting to complete the report in March, 2008. Draft material can be viewed on TAPSpace.
